Must Have Resource: “Yeshu” by D. Flusser

David Flusser’s important work in the field of Jesus and Second Temple Jewish studies, “Jesus” has finally been translated and published in Hebrew by Magnes Press. An English review can be found in Haaretz: He’s one of us, he’s from here by Yitzhak Laor. I believe that the English edition upon which the Hebrew is based was also collaborated on by Steven Notley.

The English edition is still available, revised and updated by Steven Notley, through Eerdmans: The Sage from Galilee: Rediscovering Jesus’ Genius. It should be noted that the 3rd edition of this work entitles “Jesus” contains Flusser’s supplementary studies, which do not wholly appear in the Eerdman’s version.

It would go without saying that anyone involved in historical Jesus studies would be remiss to not have this volume, either in English or Hebrew, as part of their library. What Flusser elucidates in this volume is only beginning to be appreciated by scholars.
